Surviving initiation - Flash excerpt from Rys Rising at Indie Snippets

A few weeks ago I discovered Indie Snippets, an entertaining blog that promotes author-produced fiction by featuring very short excerpts of about 200 words.

On Wednesday my submission from Rys Rising: Book I was featured. I sent in the scene from the climax of Amar and Urlen's initiation into the Kez outlaw society.

Read the excerpt from Rys Rising at Indie Snippets.

Thank you to blog owner Bryan R. Dennis for publishing this blog. I think I better submit some more snippets from my other novels.

Ebay holiday shopping with flash auctions

Bidding is fun - Falbe Publishing on ebay
I’ve been an ebay seller for years. I routinely sell paperbacks to ebay shoppers. Usually I run standard one-week auctions, but I have decided to run flash auctions as the holiday shopping season kicks off. By flash auction I mean that each auction will last one day and then close. This way bidders will know very quickly whether they won the item. I understand that a person looking for a gift may not want to wait a week to find out if he or she won. So, with one day auctions a person can feel comfortable bidding because there will not be a long wait involved. I’ll also enable instant purchases with the buy it now button for people willing to spend more to skip the bidding process.

I’ll be running the flash auctions from Tuesday November 22nd through Wednesday November 30th. This way I know everything will ship by the first week of December and I can guarantee delivery before December 25th.

After I end the flash auctions, I’ll go back to my regular weekly listings and add a notice that I can’t promise a Christmas delivery.

Find my current listings at: http://myworld.ebay.com/falbepublishing

Products that will be available during the flash auctions are:
Get Dicey: Play Craps and Have Fun – This is my nonfiction how to play craps guide. I used to work as a Las Vegas craps dealer a long time ago in a galaxy far away, so I actually am an expert at explaining this popular casino game. Get Dicey was the first book I self published and it has been steadily selling for years.

The Rys Chronicles complete series in paperback. This bundle includes four books: Union of Renegades, The Goddess Queen, Judgment Rising, and The Borderlands of Power.

If my readers who enjoyed my ebooks would like to get The Rys Chronicles in print, especially as a gift, my ebay listings provide a great way to get the novels at a low price.

Enter the Cyber Monday Union of Renegades fantasy audiobook giveaway drawing

Great Minds Think Aloud Literary Community awards 5 ravens to Rys Rising

Rys Rising: Book I received a positive review at Great Minds Think Aloud Literary Community.
Reviewer Maegan Morin of the Great Minds Think Aloud Literary Community unveiled her review of Rys Rising: Book I on Friday.

Her opening remarks
"Upon first starting this novel I was a little skeptical. I have literally read hundreds of fantasy novels but never any by an indie author and I was worried that I would be dissappointed. Luckily my worried thoughts were in vain."

After giving her opinions on my writing and characters, Morin added:

"I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy."
So would I! Thank you for the great review! Contrary to popular belief, writers need more than rejection and verbal abuse to thrive. We need readers who like our work to mention it to others.

Morin's remarks also reminded me about readers who are honestly leery of giving a self published title a try. I'm glad she overcame her worries and ended up having a great read. To disregard indie fiction is like imposing on yourself a rule that you will never eat a home cooked meal and only eat at restaurants.

Morin's complete review can be read at the GMTA Community.

Indie writer news -- Cover art and Pre-order discount

Cover art and a deleted scene

Paranormal romance author J.R. Pearse Nelson revealed at her blog on Saturday the cover art for her upcoming novel Vessel. In the post announcing the arrival of cover art, Nelson includes a scene cut from the final version of a previous novel titled Tribute. Read the scene that the author loves but chose not to include.

I like this deleted scenes concept for writers. I enjoy watching them in the extras on DVDs so I think it will transfer nicely to the medium of novels. Of course I never have any deleted scenes to share from my novels. If I cut it out believe me it needed to be cut out. And if I love it, then I will find a way to make it work. However, I fully understand that not everyone is like me (a fact painfully apparent every day of my life), so I recommend reading Nelson's deleted scene. Her reason for removing it makes sense. It was a point of view issue and not a quality issue.

Daniel L. Carter announces sequel to The Unwanted

Almost one year ago I reviewed The Unwanted positively, and the author emailed me recently to announce the upcoming release of the next book in the series The Children of Anak. It's the second book in Carter's sci fi G-6 Chronicles, and he's hoping to release it by December 9th. Carter is offer a Christmas promotion on pre-orders through his website. Readers will get 20 percent off an autographed copy.

Please go his website G-6 Chronicles: The Unwanted Trilogy to order The Children of Anak and see more about Carter's science fiction.

Character selected to appear on my next novel New Religion

I have paid the deposit to commission artwork for the cover of my upcoming fantasy novel New Religion: Rys Rising Book III. In about two to three months I will have the art and hopefully I will also have the manuscript polished and presentable to readers.

The character that will be featured on the cover of New Religion is Loxane, the Shamaness of the Kelsurs, and, if you have already read Book II Savage Storm, you know she is also now the High Priestess of Onja.

My readers will know that Loxane tends to dance naked before the heathen masses, but alas I will not be depicting her nude on the cover. (This would automatically get the novel rejected for inclusion in the Apple iBooks store. Weirdoes!) So the cover art won't be able to reveal her best tattoos, but I'm hoping to receive a stunning portrait of Loxane in her new armored vest that Amar looted from the armory of the Temulanka Tribe and with her preferred weapon the sickle. Maybe someday I will be able to commission a nude portrait of her for my websites, and then we could see all her tattoos.

If you have not had the pleasure of meeting Loxane yet, here's a link to the chapter she first appears in the first novel Rys Rising: Chapter 6. The Thievesmeet

To get started with my new epic fantasy series Rys Rising, please download the first novel for free. Rys Rising: Book I.

You can read it and the next book and be ready when New Religion comes out in hopefully February.

Review: Two Moons of Sera engaging read full of mystery and emotion

Two Moons of Sera by Pavarti K. Tyler
With the publication of the novella Two Moons of Sera author Pavarti K. Tyler has launched a creative new series. Two advanced species live in the world of Two Moons of Sera. The Sualwet are a water people who live and breathe underwater but are capable of coming onto land. The Erdlanders are the people that live on the land. They are at war with each other, and the story opens with the Sualwet female Nilafay fleeing from her Erdlander captors. She does not escape.

Then the story advances about 16 years and Nilafay is living in an isolated coastal cove with her daughter Serafay, or Sera. Nilafay has finally escaped the Erdlanders but she is rejected by her Sualwet people because Sera is an Erdlander-Sualwet hybrid. The pregnancy was forced upon Nilafay by cruel experiments. Unwilling to abandon her daughter, Nilafay lives in hiding and Sera grows up with only her mother for company.

The unrelenting isolation has begun to weigh on Sera, who longs for new experiences. While Nilafay is away on one of her frequent forays to scavenge supplies, a seemingly wild young male Erdlander enters Sera's refuge. Unbearably curious and needy for company, Sera seeks contact with this strange new arrival. He has apparently been hiding in the wilderness for a long time because he has forgotten how to talk, but he quickly learns again with Sera's help. His name is Torkek and he possesses unexpected powers that suggest he is the product of experiments as well.

The story in Two Moons of Sera has an overall good pace and guided me from scene to scene almost effortlessly. A new and startling event was always popping up to keep me reading. It only got a little slow during the initial scenes between Sera and Torkek because of the need to help him reacquire language.

Throughout the story Sera comes through as a sympathetic and believeable character. Her normal adolescent longings for friends and new experiences are easy to identify with. Sera embodies the recognizable teenage need for companionship along with the realization that she will need an existence beyond the protective zone her mother has created for her.

Tyler's writing is concise yet still filled with feeling and imagery. I felt Sera's webbed toes digging in the sand. I felt how her body slid into the gentle sea waters of her cove. I felt her alarm when she had to flee the coast and enter the foreign inland areas. Tyler has obviously poured a lot of love and imagination into her fantasy world. I anticipate that future installments of the story will further reveal the opposing societies of Sualwet and Erdlander from the point of view of two rejected outsiders. Even in the short space of a novella, these two characters came through strongly. The author has carefully created her characters and revealed gracefully the awkwardness of two young people getting to know each other under difficult circumstances.

Two Moons of Sera leaves me intrigued about how the story will develop. This initial novella that tells the story of Sera's origins and how she met Torkek was fascinating, disturbing, yet a little hopeful because it shows two outcasts finding each other.

Thank you to Pavarti K. Tyler for sending me an advanced reading copy. You can use the links below to purchase Two Moons of Sera. Also be sure to visit Tyler's website and enter her November giveaway.

Music from my fantasy audiobook podcast

A little bit of music to set the mood is essential at the opening of an audiobook. At the start and end of each podcast chapter of my fantasy novel Union of Renegades, there is music in the background. It's a piece called Morpheus Calls composed by Pierre Gerwig Langer that I licensed from Shockwave-Sound.com.

Unfortunately only a few seconds of this epic music are included in the podcasts, so I thought I would share the whole composition here. It's only a little over a minute long, but it driving aggressive beat and choral elements really bring to mind adventure and danger.

To listen to the audiobook that this sets the mood for, please go to the free fantasy podcast page.

Blog tour giveaways - iTunes gift card, ebook basket, and free criticism!

Coming up on Wednesday November 9th, I will be a stop on the blog tour of Pavarti K. Tyler, author of Two Moons of Sera. I was gifted with an advanced copy of this novella, and I will publish my review on Wednesday.

Pavarti has been a guest blogger here in which she explained the mythology of her name. (I love it when I get to talk about myself too.)

Right now to promote her publication of Two Moons of Sera, she has organized a giveaway that is lasting through the whole month of November. The details of her many prizes are listed below along with the link to enter the giveaway at her blog. My personal favorite is a 10,000 word critique of a manuscript. I'm sure everyone is drooling over that one. I assure you I am too emotionally fragile to endure such a thing, but I guess other people like lengthy critiques of their precious creations.

Please enter the giveaway and come back on Wednesday to read my review of Two Moons of Sera.

Flash excerpts from Savage Storm around the web

As part of my recent release of Savage Storm: Rys Rising Book II, select bloggers were contacted by me and offered a flash excerpt to publish at their blogs. So far two bloggers have taken me up on the offer.

Photobucket

To Read or Not to Read is an active book blog that features reviews and giveaways. Thank you to Marcie for helping me promote my new release.

The scene published at Marcie's blog shows when the rebelling rys enter a tower that they have taken from their tabre masters. Go to flash excerpt.

You can read another flash excerpt at the blog of Paranormal Romance author J.R. Pearse Nelson. Doesn't she have the best profile picture ever? I contacted her because she has a soft spot for epic fantasy, and she graciously shared one my flash excerpts from Savage Storm.

Read the scene at her blog where Cruce and Rayden prepare for a seige.

If you want to read my newest novel, go to this page to purchase Savage Storm.
