Find All My Fantasy Novels at Inkbok a New $4.95 a Month Ebook Subscription Platform

Startup Inkbok launched today and all of my novels are its catalog. For a mere $4.95 a month readers get unlimited reading of books and articles on Android, iOS, and web. Like other cloud-based subscription catalogs, users can see and consume the content but they can't download it and keep it. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Most people want to read entertainment and information without really needing to keep a copy. Services like these also have value because they give their subscribers access to content across platforms and no one has to worry about having the right format for anything.

Inkbok distinguishes itself as a company dedicated to delivering value to its subscribers, compensating and encouraging its contributors, and giving to charities. Subscribers fees are distributed every month by these ratios: 30 percent to Inkbok, 60 percent to contributors, and 10 percent to community chosen charities.

Here are some details from Inkbok's press release:

“As Inkbok grows, it will benefit all of our authors and increase our impact on the outside community. There is nothing like this in the literary industry today,” says Konrad Urbanowicz, Inkbok’s Vice President and head developer. With Inkbok taking only 30% of it’s gross revenue to cover all of it’s expenses to run the site, pay employees, and make a profit, Urbanowicz is certainly correct that there is nothing else like this.

This gross revenue sharing model is a new alternative to the traditional royalty system the publishing industry has used for years, and Inkbok may have struck a chord. In the past three months, they have gained 80 publishing partners and over a thousand authors. “The response thus far has been nothing short of amazing; our collection is growing exponentially,” says Urbanowicz.

When asked why a platform like Inkbok is needed, Todd Ebach, President of Inkbok, stated that people have a natural desire to search and discover, readers included, but they don’t want to pay for the process by buying each book. The team at Inkbok believes that offering readers the freedom to discover through a subscription model will result in more people reading and more exposure and royalties for authors. “We want to recapture that exciting feeling of spending hours in an old used bookstore and never knowing what you might find.”

The word “community” seemed to be the driving force of our conversation. When asked about this, Joey Ebach replied, “Reading is a conversation between the author and the reader. Our desire is to bring this conversation into real time, connecting authors with readers, and readers with other readers.” The team views Inkbok as more than just a business, but a place where stories and ideas are created, discussed and shared. “Early on, we chose not to seek out funding from investors or venture capitalists,” says Ebach. “If we did, they would have never allowed us to give 60% of our gross revenue to authors and 10% to charity; that’s not exactly profit maximization. Rather, we are a group of book lovers working to create the best reader writer community in the world.”

See my author profile.

You'll need to sign up for the service to read anything, but you can browse the catalog and see what's there first.

Please keep in mind that this is a brand new company building this system from the ground up AND this is it's first day. As time goes on more titles will be added and the site will add more features. I can attest to not having any problems using Inkbok as a supplier. Adding my written works went smoothly and the pages for all the books look nice.

Jealousy & Marriage Themes of Disciple Part IV by L. Blankenship

Today I welcome L. Blankenship touring her newest romantic fantasy Disciple Part IV. After you read the excerpt, make sure to look at the bottom for the Omnibus ebook of the first three parts.

When she discovered she was pregnant with Prince Kiefan's child, Kate had to marry. Her friend Anders volunteered, claiming it would be strictly a marriage of convenience. Over the last several months, Kate has come to question both his feelings and her own -- and worries what protective, jealous Kiefan would do...

Rafe burbled against my shoulder. I tossed a quartered log down by the hearth and lifted my son in both hands. “Good-morn, sweetling. Your fourth Saint-day now — what shall we do this time? We’ll go to the disciple’s dance at noon. You’ll get to see everyone during the meal, I’m sure. You were everyone’s favorite last week. But what to do this morning?”

He turned his head, and it lolled to one side. Anders leaned in to kiss his chubby cheek, and Rafe’s mouth gaped open. Meaning to smile, I was sure.

“Come and watch the horses,” Anders said.

“He loves the horses.” I settled him back on my shoulder. “He always kicked when I was riding.”

“Of course he did.”

I looked up; Anders’ flaxen crest hung to one side, loose, and a smile tucked up the corner of his mouth. His hand touched my arm and he leaned closer to kiss my cheek. I turned against his scratchy stubble to kiss him back and slipped one arm around him. A squeeze, warm and close, smelling of horses.

Love him while he’s here. My throat tightened, of a sudden. Anders’ arm loosened, but I kept my grip on him. He hugged me again, easily persuaded, and nuzzled against my temple in place of a question.

So easy to kiss him, if I dared, to be the wife he should have. I wanted to, Mother have mercy. If only Kiefan had seen something in the duchesses. If only he’d sounded more glad to try —

Anders’ mouth touched mine, gently tipping my face up. My breath caught, my heart skipped a beat in fear. I pulled back, my arm around him stiffening to an arm’s length. He went still, tracking me with the calm, unruffled gaze he used on skittish fillies.

“I’ll not put you in danger,” I said. Until I knew Kiefan could be content in a marriage.

Anders’ gentleness shifted to resolve. “I’m not afraid of him.”

I heard a door open; Will was awake. “Let him find a bride,” I got out before Will shuffled into the kitchen. He tossed out muttered greetings, rubbing his eyes.

Anders shot me a measuring glance before he cuffed his brother and started up the talk of horses. It would have to do until we had another chance to talk. Rafe gurgled against my shoulder, fussed a little. “We’ll watch the horses this morning,” I told him.

Back cover of Disciple, Part IV
Kate can’t avoid the simple truth any longer; as much as she loves Kiefan, he’s now the king and his duties leave him precious little time for her and their newborn son. Kate’s husband Anders, the ne’er-do-well knight, is the one who kisses her cheek every morning and soothes the baby to sleep on his shoulder.

Kiefan’s protective jealousy still casts a shadow over her life. He would gladly throw Anders to the wolves if it will keep alliance negotiations from collapsing. Their homeland desperately needs these allies against the invading Empire. The kingdom barely survived the first wave of the enemy’s monstrous army and more is to come.

But Kate can’t stand by and let Anders become a victim — or let Kiefan suspect she’s falling in love with her husband.

History Told Through Social Media in Hashtag Histories

Since I recently started helping other authors distribute their press releases I've had the pleasure of encountering new subject matter. Philip Gibson author of Hashtag Histories has developed an intriguing format for telling 20th century history. He develops tweets and facebook posts from key historical figures like Hitler, Churchill, Kennedy, Castro, and others. The idea stems from wondering what it would have been like if social media had been present for famous historical events.

In the excerpts I got to read they were totally addictive and very well crafted. See the rest about his Hashtag Histories in his press release below.

New Kobo Ereading App for Windows 8 Notebooks, Tablets, and Desktops

I'm passing along this article about the newest ereading app for Windows from Kobo. I just got my January sales reports for Kobo and I had a bit of an uptick in sales at Kobo. Mostly from Canada and New Zealand readers but also a few from the United States and Australia. I'm happy to reach readers anywhere and my thanks to those Kobo customers who bought either my fantasy series or cookbooks. (Hey writers can be good cooks too.)

Sourcing Indie Ebooks at Your Local Independent Bookstore with Kobo

Screen shot of ebooks by Tracy Falbe in the Kobo ebook store within Lowry's Books and More of Three Rivers and Sturgis, Michigan.

I've noticed recently that some independent bookstores in my Michigan partner with Kobo to sell ebooks at their websites.

Why would brick-and-mortar bookshops want to sell ebooks?

Logic suggests that once their customers get adjusted to ereading they may never come around to buy a print book again. I don't think this is true. Bookstores interested in maintaining a vibrant web presence even on a local scale would want to engage with a digital reading audience instead of alienating it. These locally branded Kobo ebook stores within indie bookstore websites give ebook enthusiasts a reason to go the local website. Some people who only read ebooks might be glad to support a local business.

Also ebook-reading people are readers, which means they are likely to give books as gifts.

Some people, like me, read both print and ebooks and shop both locally and online. Just because I read ebooks does not mean I don't read print books. Plus I buy print books for gifts. I have a Nook because the bookstore in my town is a Barnes & Noble. No it's not an indie business, but it is my local store. I buy print books there sometimes, and I buy ebooks in the Nook store sometimes. I can't be the only person like this.

I don't think it's daft of bookstores to sell ebooks. Their business is selling readable products. Those shops that want to integrate with online selling have a good partner with Kobo, which sells ebooks that can be used on many devices.

While exploring the websites of some regional book sellers I found all my titles available through their Kobo partner stores.

Schuler Books - Grand Rapids, Lansing, Okemos, Walker

Lowry's Books & More - Three Rivers and Sturgis

Snowbound Books - Marquette

Purchasing any of my ebooks at these stores will earn the store a commission on the sale.
